Since the introduction of software version 2.1.0, the P3 System Controllers allow you to import a drawing of the stage/building/setup/... which makes the mapping of the panels very straight-forward.
Time for a walkthrough with some screenshots...
The background image function can be found under the project options in the top-right corner.

Click "Choose Image".

Browse toward the image you want to use as background and click "Open". The image can be located on a USB Memory Device, as it gets automatically included (and saved) into the P3 Project File (no need to copy/store the image yourself). The P3 Sytem Controllers support all common image formats (*.jpg, *.png and *.gif).

You will see the image is imported now.

To define the right scaling of the image, first navigate to a "known" part of the image (a part for which you know the exact length). In this case I have moved the image towards an LC2140+ panel, which I know has a width of 1m.

Enter the exact length of this "known" part behind "Scale:". In this case I have entered 1000mm, the width of the LC2140+ panel.

Now click on the first corner of the "known" part.

Then click on the second corner of the "known" part. You will see that the P3 System Controller has automatically calculated the right scaling factor (behind "Scale:"). And press "OK" to finish.

The image is now imported into the project with the right scaling factor.

Now you can easily map the LED Video Panels onto the image, without having to measure the exact location of each individual device.

Hi Jirwind,
I did not make the CAD myself (got this from a nice colleague), but I am pretty sure it is MSD...
