Hello, I've been teaching myself Maxedia to use on a film project I'm soon starting. I shall be running the Maxedia from a GrandMa2 running in 1 mode. The two are talking to one another perfectly through ArtNet and I have patched as follows;
Base @ 1
Adjustment @ 25
Extended Layer @ 105
The way I need to use the server is that I drop images or videos into the maxedia, size and colour them for our looks them run movement on my extended layer using the position attributes, thus my output video wall/Stage Bar wall sees a planet move from left to right for example.
This is all working fine. I have written a bespoke personality for the extended layer on the MA to allow me to size my objects via the desk quickly.
My problem and lack of under standing is how the Top Layer works. I have trawled the internet and manual (old one) but need some help explaining where to patch it and use it.
I need to be able to take a video file (given to me each day by the post production house) and control the in/out of it, the speed of it and cue a play of the video, and then using the layer move it's position around the output. I notice the DMX channels of the Top Layer give play, in, out, etc but at what do I patch it and why can it not seem to grab by video files within the Maxedia? I know the files are fine as I can edit them in the GUI. I HAVE to do all this from the desk, as he console files act as the archive for the whole film

Please help someone!

Hi Stephen,

Great to hear that you are using our media server for your project.
Basically the philosophy of the Maxedia is that you build the Cues on the Maxedia and trigger them from DMX.
That way all the tools to quickly adjust are on the Maxedia GUI. It also means you can go from show to show and keep all cues on the Maxedia other then the choice of console if programming layers instead.
Using layers can be done in two ways. You either call up the cue and tweak the layers from there by DMX.
Or you us the mode in the Menu/DMX where close to the layer settings you'll find 'Control Channel Creates layer'.
What that does is when you haven't programmed any Cue in the Maxedia, you can grab a layer-fixture, set the control channel at a certain layer, and it will load a media-player for you on that layer. So you can choose your media and do other stuff with it.
